Window cleaning in The Annex

The Annex is one of Toronto's most distinctive residential pockets, built around the University of Toronto and lined with large Victorian and Edwardian houses. Many have been carved into multiple units over the years, which means a single building can have a dozen sets of windows on three or four floors. We clean all of them, inside and out, and work around tenants and shared entrances without fuss.

These are not simple two-storey facades. Bay-and-gable fronts rise high and step out from the wall, deep porches throw the ground-floor glass into shadow, and older sashes were never built to be reached easily. We bring the right ladders, poles, and pure-water reach systems to handle the height and the angles safely.

Tidy Windows is fully insured and WSIB covered, and every job comes with a written satisfaction guarantee. Quotes are free and carry no obligation. Tell us the address and we will look at the building before we give you a number.

Window cleaning on a The Annex home in Toronto

About The Annex

The Annex has a settled, slightly bohemian feel that comes from its mix of students, long-time owners, and tenants living side by side under a heavy tree canopy. Brick rowhouses and detached Victorians sit close to the street, their bay windows and gabled rooflines giving the blocks their familiar rhythm. Spadina Road and Bloor Street anchor the neighbourhood, and the closeness to the university keeps the area busy year-round. It is a place where the houses have history in the glass, and we treat them that way.

  • Large Victorian and Edwardian detached houses
  • Houses converted into multiple rental units
  • Bay-and-gable rowhouses
  • Storefronts and small mixed-use buildings along Bloor

What we watch for here

Built for The Annex windows

Tall bay-and-gable fronts

The projecting bays and high gables on Annex houses put glass well above a standard ladder reach. We use extension poles and pure-water reach poles to clean upper sashes safely, without leaning equipment against fragile trim.

Older and original glass

Many windows here are decades old, with single-pane sashes, wavy heritage glass, or storm windows added later. We clean these by hand where it matters and avoid pressure or chemicals that could harm aged putty and frames.

Deep porches and shaded fronts

Wide front porches are part of the Annex look, and they cast the main-floor windows into permanent shade where film and grime build up unseen. We get into those covered bays and bring the ground-floor glass back to clear.

Multi-unit buildings

Converted houses mean several tenants, shared halls, and windows on every floor. We coordinate access, work tidily around residents, and clean the whole building in one organized visit.

From the neighbourhood

We have a converted Victorian on a quiet Annex street and the upper bay windows had not been touched in years. Tidy Windows cleaned every floor, worked around our tenants, and left the place tidy. Fair quote and easy to deal with.

The Annex questions

Good to know

More questions about The Annex? Get in touch.

Can you work on the narrow, busy streets in the Annex?
Yes. Parking is tight on most Annex blocks and Bloor and Spadina stay busy, so we plan our arrival, keep our footprint small, and set up without blocking driveways or sidewalks. If your street has permit-only parking, let us know and we will sort out where to stage.
Our house is split into apartments. Can you still clean all the windows?
Yes, and we do this often in the Annex. We arrange access with the units or the property owner ahead of time, clean the exterior of every floor, and handle interiors for whichever units want them. One coordinated visit covers the whole building.
The windows are old. Will cleaning damage them?
No. We adjust our method to the glass and frames in front of us. Original single-pane sashes, wavy heritage glass, and wood storm windows get gentle hand cleaning rather than pressure, so the putty, paint, and frames are not disturbed.
When is the best time of year to book in the Annex?
The mature tree canopy here drops pollen in spring and sap and leaves through fall, so many owners book a spring clean and a second visit in late autumn. We are happy to set up either, or both, and will recommend timing once we have seen the property.
